Nfq Collaborates with Carlos III and CDTI in supercomputing project

Jointly with the Carlos III University and the CDTI, we are developing a project to process data and information in a efficiently, distribute and in a faster way, based on the whole expertise regarding the supercomputing world.

Carlos III University is one of the most important educational institutions in Spain and Europe. It is currently ranked at 33rd position of the QS Top 50 Under 50 ranking, which includes the 50 highest-performing universities under 50 years old. The Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI) is a Public Business Entity, reporting to the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, which fosters the technological development and innovation of Spanish companies.

Nfq has collaborated with both institutions in the innovation and technological space, specifically in the supercomputing environment.

The current project that is being accomplished thanks to this partnership, aims to optimize and distribute the calculations through the parallel processing of the information. The big challenge of this work, that lasts 2 years, is to achieve the implementation of Nfq’s own solutions in order to execute the information in different servers simultaneously. Furthermore, the processing aims to be completely dynamic, scalable and flexible.

To support this flexibility and optimization, Nfq, Carlos III University and the CDTI have created an architecture called PALM. Although there are other known architectures such as Hadoop, Spark, Flink and Storm, the PALM aims to connect the dots of each of these existing architectures and translate them into a major strategical advantage for companies, through the complex calculation distribution, enabling the processing in a shorter period of time.


This project has been funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitivity under the grant IDI-20150936, cofinanced from FEDER funds.
